Google has released Android 16 QPR2 Beta 3.1 for Pixel devices to fix a bootloop bug triggered by the “Enable desktop experience features” setting. The small patch is now rolling out to affected users.

Google is releasing Android 16 QPR2 Beta 3.1 as a bug-fix update for Pixel users impacted by a bootloop issue introduced in the previous Beta 3 build. The problem occurred when the “Enable desktop experience features” toggle was active in Developer Options before updating, preventing devices from booting properly.

Build Versions and Device Coverage

The new patch carries the following build numbers:

  • BP41.250916.010: Pixel 6, 6 Pro, and 6a
  • BP41.250916.010.A1: All other eligible Pixel devices

For users whose devices were already running Beta 3 without issue, such as the Pixel 9a, this update is minimal, weighing just 2.64 MB.

Google initially pulled the OTA rollout last week due to reports of boot failures. While today’s release notes remain unchanged from Beta 3, the company has confirmed that this incremental patch specifically addresses the bootloop issue.

Fixes for Devices Stuck in Bootloop

Google has outlined several recovery options for users whose devices fail to boot after installing the earlier Beta 3 build:

  1. Automatic Recovery: Allow the system to attempt recovery. After several failed boot attempts, it may revert automatically to Beta 2.
  2. ADB Option (if USB Debugging Enabled): Use ADB sideload to manually install the new Beta 3.1 OTA package.
  3. Recovery Mode:
    • From the Android Recovery page, perform a factory reset.
    • Alternatively, use Rescue Mode to complete a factory wipe/reset.

What’s Next

Although Beta 3.1 doesn’t add new features or visual changes, it’s an essential stability fix ahead of the next Feature Drop. Users already on the Android 16 Beta Program are encouraged to install the update promptly to ensure smoother performance and avoid bootloop risks.
