Popular Nigerian music producer and Mavin Records founder, Don Jazzy, has donated ₦20 million to support The Tech Access Project, a youth-focused initiative that aims to empower 10,000 Nigerian youths with 10,000 laptops.
The project, spearheaded by Ayilola Ayotomiwa, alongside Folowosele Adeboye, Bolade Adenike Esan, and Oriyomi Soyoye, seeks to bridge the digital divide by providing access to essential tools for young Nigerians passionate about technology, design, music production, and digital entrepreneurship.
The Tech Access Project: Empowering the Next Generation
In an X (formerly Twitter) post, the conveners made a public appeal to Don Jazzy, requesting his support, mentorship, or collaboration to help young Nigerians kickstart their digital careers.
Responding to the appeal, Don Jazzy praised the initiative’s vision and confirmed his ₦20 million donation, acknowledging that while 10,000 laptops was an ambitious target, he was happy to contribute and help spread awareness.
“Bro, I hail o. Your initiative is commendable. But sir, 10,000 laptops is not beans. At this time, I can only afford to support with ₦20 million and a repost. Hopefully, some other well-meaning Nigerians can help achieve the goal,” Don Jazzy wrote on X.
Massive Public Support on X
Following Don Jazzy’s post, The Tech Access Project quickly gained traction online under the hashtag #10kLaptopsProject, with thousands of Nigerians reposting and expressing support.
The initiative’s conveners later confirmed the receipt of the ₦20 million donation, thanking Don Jazzy for his generosity and for helping amplify their mission.
Ayilola Ayotomiwa, one of the project’s founders, shared that the goal was not just to distribute laptops but to equip youths with digital tools and training that can help them become creators, innovators, and contributors to Nigeria’s growing digital economy.
Rallying Support Across Nigeria
In addition to Don Jazzy, the organisers have reached out to several prominent Nigerians and brands, including DJ Cuppy, Davido, Adekunle Gold, Olamide, Victor Osimhen, and Chicken Republic, for further collaboration and sponsorship.
Education technology firm VAAS Global has also pledged to offer scholarships and skill-development support to the 10,000 selected beneficiaries.
Ayilola noted that as of Saturday, over ₦21 million had already been raised for the initiative, with distribution plans to be announced once sufficient funds for the laptops are secured.
“We’re reaching out to partners and supporters to make laptops accessible through sponsorships, subsidised partnerships, or simply amplifying the message,” Ayilola stated.
Boosting Nigeria’s Digital Future
The Tech Access Project comes at a critical time when digital literacy and access to technology are becoming key drivers of youth empowerment in Nigeria. By providing laptops to 10,000 aspiring creators, the initiative hopes to nurture talent, promote innovation, and strengthen Nigeria’s digital economy.
With Don Jazzy’s contribution and the growing public support, the initiative signals a positive step toward building a tech-driven, youth-empowered future for Nigeria.
