The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has entered into a strategic partnership with Swedfund, Sweden’s Development Finance Institution, to strengthen the security, reliability, and resilience of Nigeria’s fifth-generation (5G) mobile networks.
The partnership is anchored on a grant agreement aimed at developing a risk-based cybersecurity framework that ensures Nigeria’s 5G and future network systems are designed, deployed, and operated securely. This framework will serve as a blueprint for safeguarding next-generation digital infrastructure as Nigeria accelerates its 5G rollout.
Securing Nigeria’s 5G Expansion
As Nigeria continues to scale its 5G infrastructure, which promises faster speeds, lower latency, and massive device connectivity, the NCC has reaffirmed that cybersecurity and public trust remain at the heart of its digital transformation agenda.
The initiative seeks to protect national interests, mitigate cyber risks, and reinforce confidence in Nigeria’s rapidly growing digital ecosystem. By embedding security measures from the foundation of network design, the collaboration ensures that connectivity expansion does not compromise safety.
Enhancing Critical National Infrastructure
Beyond telecommunications, the partnership will impact key sectors such as energy, healthcare, transport, and education, where 5G technology plays a pivotal role in driving smart systems and efficient service delivery.
Through its work with Swedfund, the NCC aims to align Nigeria’s cybersecurity practices with global standards, promoting a secure, inclusive, and innovative digital economy. The initiative underscores Nigeria’s commitment to building digital infrastructure that supports sustainable growth and protects citizens’ data and privacy.
Advancing Global Collaboration
This partnership highlights a growing international cooperation between Nigeria and Sweden in technology and digital development. Swedfund’s support reflects a shared vision to foster resilient digital infrastructure that can withstand emerging cyber threats while enabling inclusive economic advancement.
