xAI is reportedly finalising a $15 billion funding round that could value the company at $230 billion, strengthening its position as a key rival to OpenAI, Google DeepMind, and Anthropic in the accelerating global AI race.

X has released a significant update that allows Grok, its advanced AI system, to reorder posts in the Following feed using personalised relevance signals. Instead of displaying posts strictly by publication time, Grok now determines which updates appear first by analysing each user’s behaviour, interests, and interaction patterns. The update began rolling out shortly after Elon Musk urged users to refresh their apps to activate the feature.

How Grok’s New Ranking System Works

With the new system in place, a user could see a close friend’s post placed above an older update from a celebrity, even if the celebrity posted first. Grok evaluates which posts are more meaningful to each individual and places those at the top of the feed.

For users who prefer the original chronological layout, X still offers an unfiltered timeline option within the feed settings. This ensures that those who value the traditional real-time experience can switch back at any moment.

A Major Shift for the Following Feed Since 2022

This update is one of the most transformative changes to the Following feed since Elon Musk’s takeover in 2022. Previously, the Following feed was known for showing posts in strict chronological order. By integrating Grok, X is evolving the feed into a more discovery-focused experience—while still limiting posts to accounts a user has chosen to follow.

Embedding Grok into such a widely used part of the platform also highlights the AI’s growing importance in the overall X experience.

What the Update Means for Creators and Visibility

Switching from a time-based feed to an AI-driven one could significantly impact how creators’ posts are displayed. Accounts that typically appear mid-feed may now rank higher if Grok identifies that users engage with them often.

For instance, a small business owner’s posts might show up before more recent posts from a major celebrity if the user interacts with that business more frequently. This shift could reshape visibility for both major creators and smaller accounts.

Increased Personalisation Through User Behaviour

The new system places greater emphasis on user activity. Every like, repost, reply, or profile check becomes a ranking signal that influences what shows up at the top of the Following feed. As user behaviour changes, the feed will adapt more quickly, creating a more personalised timeline.

For everyday users, this makes the Following feed feel more tailored to their interests. For creators and businesses, improved ranking could translate into more reliable engagement, especially when their content aligns with patterns Grok detects among followers.
