HONOR Expands into Egypt with Advanced Smartphone Manufacturing, 1,000 Jobs Expected

Global tech brand HONOR is set to deepen its footprint in North Africa with plans to introduce advanced smartphone manufacturing technologies in Egypt, a move expected to boost local production and create about 1,000 skilled jobs.

The development follows high-level talks between Egypt’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Raafat Hendy, and senior HONOR executives on expanding the company’s manufacturing operations in the country.

The meeting, which included key stakeholders such as the National Telecom Regulatory Authority and the Information Technology Industry Development Agency, focused on scaling up smartphone production and strengthening Egypt’s position as a regional technology hub.

HONOR unveiled plans to expand its manufacturing base in 10th of Ramadan City in partnership with Etisal Trading. The facility is expected to produce high-quality, competitively priced smartphones for both domestic consumption and export under the “Made in Egypt” label.

The expansion aligns with Egypt’s broader ambition to build a fully integrated electronics manufacturing ecosystem, supported by the government’s “Egypt Makes Electronics” initiative aimed at attracting investment, encouraging innovation, and creating jobs.

Officials said the project would incorporate advanced production systems, including surface-mount technology (SMT) lines, while facilitating the transfer of global expertise to local talent in the fast-growing smartphone sector.

HONOR emphasised that Egypt’s strategic location and improving investment climate make it an ideal gateway for expansion across Africa and the Middle East. The company also highlighted its focus on research, development, and AI-driven devices as part of its global growth strategy.

Etisal Trading noted that the decision to establish HONOR’s first manufacturing facility outside China in Egypt reflects growing investor confidence in the country’s industrial capacity.

The factory, currently in its trial phase, is expected to be officially inaugurated before the end of the year. Spanning about 8,000 square metres, the plant will have an annual production capacity of up to three million units, marking a significant step in Egypt’s push to become a regional leader in electronics manufacturing.
