The Federal Government has announced that more than one million applicants of the 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) program will take an introductory course on Artificial Intelligence (AI). This update was shared by the Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, via a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday.

He explained that all applicants are currently being onboarded onto the 3MTT fellow platform in preparation for the selection of the first group of 30,000 participants.

Earlier on Monday, the Minister revealed that applications for the 3MTT program had surpassed one million. He advised applicants to watch out for emails detailing the next steps. Some individuals have already received these emails, confirmed their registration, and are now being integrated into the platform.

AI Course Progressing Rapidly

Dr. Tijani expressed enthusiasm over the fact that several early registrants have completed the AI course within just a few hours. He stated:

“All the 1m+ applicants for #3MTT are being onboarded onto the fellow platform and sign-posted to an intro to #AI course while they await news on the first cohort. It is reassuring to see many of them complete the course within hours. We are onto something and I am excited watching it all unravel.”

However, a number of applicants have reported delays in receiving confirmation emails, and others are experiencing issues with receiving OTPs needed to complete the registration process — indicating possible technical challenges with the onboarding system.

Program Phases and Skill Focus

According to the government’s implementation roadmap, the 3MTT training will roll out in three phases:

  • Phase 1: 30,000 participants
  • Phase 2: 300,000 participants
  • Phase 3: The remaining applicants, bringing the total to 3 million

Phase one, which is being carried out in partnership with NITDA, will involve various stakeholders including training providers, employers, and mentors.

Participants will be trained in a wide range of practical skills that enhance tech-enabled roles without necessarily requiring coding or development expertise. These include:

  • Digital Marketing
  • Project Management Software
  • Cloud Tools Navigation
  • Data Analysis and Visualization
  • Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
  • CRM Tools
  • Accounting Software
  • Graphic Design
  • UX/UI Design

The 3MTT program is part of the government’s broader effort to build a digitally skilled workforce to support Nigeria’s growing tech ecosystem.
