Google has unveiled Gemini 3 Flash, a fast and efficient AI model designed for coding, reasoning, and interactive applications, replacing Gemini 2.5 Flash across Gemini and Search.

Google has released Gemini 3 Flash, a new artificial intelligence model described as “frontier intelligence built for speed,” designed to deliver rapid responses without sacrificing performance.

The model sits under the broader Gemini 3 family and is optimised for coding, complex reasoning, and quick answers in high-frequency, interactive applications.

Built for Speed, Efficiency, and Iterative Development

In a blog post published on Wednesday, Google said Gemini 3 Flash was engineered to be highly efficient, enabling developers to run demanding workloads at low latency while maintaining output quality.

The new release replaces Gemini 2.5 Flash, which launched six months ago.

“Gemini 3 Flash is made for iterative development, offering Pro-grade coding performance with low latency,” Google said. “It’s able to reason and solve tasks quickly in high-frequency workflows.”

Benchmark Performance and Model Comparisons

According to Google, Gemini 3 Flash significantly outperforms its predecessor and rivals earlier high-end models in several benchmarks.

On Humanity’s Last Exam, a benchmark designed to test expertise across multiple domains without tool usage, Gemini 3 Flash recorded a 33.7% score.

By comparison:

  • Gemini 3 Pro scored 37.5%
  • Gemini 2.5 Flash scored 11%
  • ChatGPT-5.2 from OpenAI scored 34.5%

Google said the results show Gemini 3 Flash matching or nearing the performance of flagship models in key reasoning and coding measures.

Stronger Reasoning, Multimodal, and Visual Output

Google noted that Gemini 3 Flash improves the overall quality of coding sessions with stronger reasoning, enhanced tool use, and advanced multimodal capabilities.

The model also demonstrates a better understanding of user intent and can generate richer visual outputs, including images and tables, reducing the need for repeated or complex prompting.

Now the Default Model Across Gemini and Search

Starting today, Gemini 3 Flash becomes the default model across:

  • The Gemini app
  • AI Mode in Google Search

This change replaces Gemini 2.5 Flash and allows both developers and everyday users to access the model through multiple Google platforms.

Access, Pricing, and Usage Limits

Gemini 3 Flash is available to all users, though free-tier users face daily usage limits. Paid users receive full access to Gemini 3 Flash and other Gemini 3 models.

The launch follows the debut of the broader Gemini 3 lineup last month, which Google described as state-of-the-art in reasoning, creativity, and problem-solving.

Rising Competition in the AI Model Race

The release comes amid intensifying competition from AI rivals such as Meta’s Meta AI and China-based DeepSeek.

Despite the crowded market, Google said Gemini continues to see strong adoption, with:

  • Over 2 billion users monthly across Gemini-powered experiences
  • More than 650 million monthly users on the Gemini app alone

What This Means for Developers and Users

With Gemini 3 Flash, Google is positioning itself as a leader in fast, efficient AI models that balance speed with advanced reasoning, particularly for coding, real-time applications, and high-volume workflows.

The model’s rollout as the default option underscores Google’s push to make advanced AI capabilities more accessible at scale, while maintaining competitive performance against top-tier rivals.
