The Lagos Council of the Amalgamated Union of App-based Transporters of Nigeria (AUATON) has announced a strategic collaboration with Wema Bank to deliver tailored financial solutions for e-hailing drivers, aiming to improve their access to credit and income-generating opportunities.
The announcement was made by Comrade Azeez Jaiyesimi, State Chairman of AUATON, who described the partnership as a move to simplify banking and make financial resources more accessible for union members.
Key Benefits of the AUATON-Wema Bank Partnership
AUATON members who register under the scheme will enjoy a range of financial advantages, including:
- Low-interest vehicle loans and CNG loans
- Revenue from car headrest advertising
- Free POS services
- Quick loans and SME financing options
- Loans for solar inverter purchases
- Discounted business name registration
- Car insurance coverage and renewal
- AUATON-branded ATM debit cards that also act as ID cards and provide access to school fees loans
“We are thrilled to partner with Wema Bank to simplify financial services for all AUATON members. This collaboration enhances banking access and empowers drivers with more financial opportunities,” Jaiyesimi said.
How Drivers Can Register
Drivers can sign up through the AUATON Wema Bank registration portal by providing:
- BVN (Bank Verification Number)
- NIN (National Identification Number)
- Email address
- Phone number
Current Wema Bank customers do not need to open new accounts. Existing accounts will be automatically recognised, and all benefits remain accessible.
After account creation, drivers will set up an ALAT Channel profile, using the default login credentials sent to their registered email and phone number.
Supporting Drivers Amid Revenue Challenges
The partnership is part of AUATON’s wider efforts to help drivers navigate declining earnings and low fare rates.
In December 2025, the union launched a LED car roof advertising initiative, equipping participating vehicles with high-tech LCD roof displays for advertising campaigns.
“The LED roof advert scheme allows car owners to convert their vehicles into income-generating assets, earning between ₦70,000 and ₦150,000 monthly while driving their usual routes,” Jaiyesimi explained.
Promoting Financial Stability for E-Hailing Drivers
Through this and other initiatives, AUATON aims to help drivers maximise earnings, generate passive income, and achieve financial security, particularly during the financially demanding holiday season.
By combining banking partnerships, advertising schemes, and access to low-interest loans, AUATON is taking proactive steps to increase drivers’ earning potential beyond advocacy for better fares.
With the Wema Bank collaboration, Lagos e-hailing drivers now have enhanced financial tools to manage money, invest in vehicles, and boost overall income stability.
