Burkina Faso Unveils Digital Travel Platform to Strengthen Border Security
The government of Burkina Faso has launched a new digital travel declaration platform aimed at modernising border control and improving passenger processing.
The initiative, rolled out by the Ministry of Security of Burkina Faso, was officially unveiled on Wednesday at Ouagadougou International Airport, with key stakeholders in the aviation and security sectors in attendance.
Speaking at the launch, Minister of Security Mahamadou Sana said the new system replaces the country’s manual travel documentation process, which had long been associated with delays and inconvenience for passengers.
Under the new platform, travellers can now submit their travel information up to 72 hours before departure, a move expected to ease congestion at border points and significantly improve processing times.
Authorities say the digital solution will also provide security agencies with real-time access to accurate passenger data, enhancing the tracking of movements and strengthening the country’s capacity for intelligence gathering and analysis.
Officials added that the rollout forms part of Burkina Faso’s broader push toward digital transformation in public administration, aimed at improving service delivery, streamlining procedures, and reinforcing national security infrastructure.
