CMA CGM, Marlink and Eutelsat to Roll Out OneWeb LEO Connectivity Across Global Fleet
Global shipping giant CMA CGM Group has partnered with Marlink and Eutelsat to deploy OneWeb Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite connectivity across its worldwide maritime fleet, marking one of the largest LEO-enabled rollouts in the shipping industry to date.
Under the new multi-year agreement, OneWeb LEO services will be installed on more than 300 CMA CGM vessels within the next nine months. The solution will be delivered and integrated by Marlink, combining OneWeb’s LEO network with existing LEO and GEO satellite systems into a resilient, hybrid multi-orbit architecture powered by Marlink’s XChange NextGen edge platform.
The large-scale deployment is designed to deliver high-throughput, low-latency connectivity at sea, enabling CMA CGM vessels to operate with digital performance comparable to shore-based environments. The enhanced connectivity will support real-time data exchange, improved operational efficiency, and better digital services for crew welfare, while laying the foundation for future maritime digital use cases.
Beyond connectivity, the solution is expected to support decarbonisation and sustainability goals. Real-time optimisation of routes, vessel speeds, and fuel consumption will help reduce emissions and improve energy efficiency across the fleet. Through Marlink’s XChange NextGen edge cloud platform, CMA CGM will also gain access to advanced capabilities in cybersecurity, industrial IoT (IIoT) data collection, cloud enablement, and centralised fleet-wide network orchestration, ensuring consistent performance regardless of sailing routes.
CMA CGM, which operates over 650 vessels serving more than 420 ports in 177 countries, has been an anchor shareholder in Eutelsat since 2022—reflecting a shared commitment to high-performance satellite connectivity and European digital sovereignty.
Commenting on the partnership, Ramon Fernandez, Executive Vice President and CFO of CMA CGM Group, said the integration of OneWeb LEO services strengthens the group’s global connectivity framework, enhances operational efficiency and crew welfare, and aligns with its long-term industrial, performance, and sustainability objectives.
Eutelsat CEO Jean-François Fallacher described the agreement as a major milestone for OneWeb’s maritime expansion, noting that the collaboration delivers a future-proof, low-latency connectivity solution tailored to the growing digital demands of the shipping sector.
For Marlink CEO Erik Ceuppens, the project underscores the company’s ability to deliver next-generation digital solutions at scale. He said the partnership positions CMA CGM at the forefront of the industry’s transition to a multi-LEO maritime connectivity future, enhancing efficiency, safety, and decarbonisation across its global operations.
The partnership signals a significant leap forward in maritime digital transformation, setting a new benchmark for resilient, high-performance satellite connectivity across global shipping fleets.
