Google has launched its AI Skilling Blueprint for Africa, offering governments a structured policy guide to train AI talent. The initiative also includes $2.25 million to create trustworthy, AI-ready public data sets across the continent.

Google has started releasing its January 2026 software update for supported Pixel smartphones and tablets, maintaining its monthly cycle of security patches and performance refinements.

The company confirmed via its official Pixel support forum that the update will be distributed gradually, meaning not all eligible devices will receive it at the same time.

Gradual Rollout Explained

Google said the January update is being rolled out in phases to ensure reliability across different regions and hardware variants.

“Our software update is being released in phases. New features will gradually roll out across all regions,” the company explained.

This staged deployment allows Google to track update performance, quickly address potential issues, and minimise disruptions for users.

Security Fixes Take Priority

Although Google did not detail new user-facing features, it emphasised that the January 2026 update delivers critical security enhancements and system-level fixes.

According to the January Android Security Bulletin, the update patches multiple vulnerabilities within both the Android operating system and Pixel-specific software components.

Google urged users to install the update once available, stressing the importance of staying protected against newly discovered security threats.

Eligible Pixel Models

A broad range of Pixel devices are included in the January 2026 update rollout, covering both newer flagships and other supported hardware, such as:

  • Pixel 8 series
  • Pixel 9 series
  • Pixel 10 series
  • Pixel 7a
  • Pixel Fold
  • Pixel Tablet

The update underscores Google’s ongoing commitment to timely software support across its Pixel ecosystem.

How to Manually Check for the Update

Users who wish to check for the update manually can do so by navigating to:

Settings > System > Software updates > System update

If the update does not appear immediately, users may need to wait until the phased rollout reaches their specific device and location.

Reinforcing Google’s Monthly Update Policy

The January 2026 update highlights Google’s continued focus on device security, stability, and long-term reliability. Even in the absence of major new features, monthly updates remain essential for safeguarding Pixel devices and maintaining consistent performance over time.
