Liberia has unveiled a five-year national digital transformation strategy aimed at boosting connectivity, strengthening technology sovereignty, and positioning the country for innovation-led growth.
The roadmap, officially titled “Digital Liberia: Equity, Sovereignty and Innovation for a Connected Future,” forms the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications’ Strategic Plan for 2025–2029 and outlines a coordinated push to build local digital capacity while reducing reliance on external digital infrastructure and platforms.
At the heart of the strategy are eight priority focus areas, including the expansion of universal broadband access, promotion of digital inclusion, the introduction of a national digital addressing system alongside postal sector reforms, enhanced cybersecurity and data sovereignty, the advancement of e-governance, and increased support for ICT-driven innovation.
These priorities are organised under four strategic pillars, designed to deliver measurable outcomes while ensuring that digital development reaches communities across the country.
Speaking at the launch, Commissioner Patrick R. Honnah, Acting Chairperson of the Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA), described the plan as timely, noting that rapid technological change is reshaping economies and public institutions globally. He said the strategy provides clear direction for Liberia to remain competitive and resilient in the digital age.
Honnah also reaffirmed the LTA’s commitment to collaboration, adding that a modernised and effective Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications would strengthen regulation, attract investment, and deliver tangible benefits to citizens.
Similarly, Minister of Posts and Telecommunications, Sekou M. Kromah, said the strategy is action-driven and closely aligned with the government’s ARREST Agenda, supporting broader national goals such as economic growth, job creation, digital inclusion, and improved public service delivery.
The launch of the “Digital Liberia” strategy signals the country’s ambition to leverage technology as a catalyst for sustainable development, innovation, and inclusive growth over the next five years.
