The Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA), through the Universal Service Fund (USF), has officially launched phase two of the Connect A School (CAS) project, further boosting the country’s digital education drive.
120 New Smart ICT Labs Across Malawi
Groundbreaking ceremonies for the second phase were held simultaneously at 16 sites across multiple districts, including Karonga, Mzimba, Nkhata Bay, Mulanje, Phalombe, Mangochi, Ntcheu, Salima, Lilongwe, and Dedza.
Building on the success of phase one, which delivered 75 ICT labs, phase two will roll out 120 Smart ICT Labs, each designed to accommodate 60 computers.
Free Internet for Three Years
To strengthen digital learning, MACRA, through the USF, will provide free internet connectivity for three years in all new facilities. This ensures that both students and teachers have the tools needed to enhance knowledge acquisition and embrace the digital era.
Driving Malawi’s Digital Transformation
Officials highlighted that the initiative directly supports the Malawi 2063 Vision, which identifies digital transformation as a cornerstone of the country’s socio-economic development. By empowering students with ICT skills, the project aims to bridge the digital divide and improve Malawi’s global competitiveness in the knowledge economy.
The Connect A School Project reflects Malawi’s broader commitment to modern education and digital inclusion, equipping future generations with the tools required to thrive in a fast-changing, tech-driven world.
