The Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC) has taken down several .NG domains—including music.360media, tunesloaded, and val9ja—for allegedly distributing pirated music and audiovisual content, following complaints from IFPI and in collaboration with NiRA.

The Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC) has shut down multiple .NG domains accused of illegally distributing copyrighted songs and digital media. Among the affected websites are music.360media.com.ng, tunesloaded.com.ng, and val9ja.com.ng, all of which were suspended for alleged repeated copyright violations.

According to BusinessDay, NCC Director-General John Asein revealed that the enforcement action came after a formal request from the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI), which flagged the platforms for widespread music piracy. The NCC executed the crackdown in partnership with the Nigerian Internet Registration Association (NiRA).

Asein noted that the NCC’s Special Taskforce Against Online Piracy (STOP) confirmed the sites were heavily involved in distributing unlicensed music and audiovisual content belonging to Nigerian and international rights owners.

Additional Piracy Sites Taken Offline

Beyond the major platforms, the NCC also suspended several other .NG domains engaged in similar illegal activities, including:

  • toxniaja.com.ng
  • medianub.com.ng
  • naijalevels.com.ng
  • mp3juice.com.ng

The Commission said these sites undermine legitimate digital music services, deprive content creators of rightful earnings, and threaten the sustainability of Nigeria’s creative economy. The operation forms part of NCC’s enforcement mandate under the Copyright Act, 2022.

NCC Reasserts Its Commitment to Creators’ Rights

Asein stressed that the Act empowers the Commission to investigate and curb online copyright abuses across websites, streaming platforms, and other digital channels. He added that the NCC and NiRA remain dedicated to promptly deactivating any .NG domain linked to piracy, ensuring a safer digital ecosystem for creative businesses.

Online Piracy Continues to Threaten Nigeria’s Creative Sector

Piracy remains one of the biggest challenges facing the global entertainment industry, and Nigeria’s music and film sectors are among those hardest hit. Beyond revenue losses, copyright infringement discourages both domestic and foreign investment, as investors shy away from projects that risk being unlawfully distributed.

In July 2025, the NCC and NiRA shut down MovieBox.ng, a notorious website offering pirated movies, music, and sports content. That action marked a significant milestone in Nigeria’s renewed campaign against digital piracy.

NCC Strengthens Its Crackdown on Piracy

The latest round of domain suspensions underscores the NCC’s intensified efforts to clamp down on online piracy. The Commission’s actions send a clear message that Nigeria is ramping up protection for content creators and reaffirming its commitment to a lawful, thriving digital creative industry.
