In a significant move to drive youth empowerment and digital inclusion, the Ogun State Government has celebrated the graduation of the first cohort of trainees from its CyberSquad Digital Technician Training Programme, a free digital skills initiative designed to strengthen Nigeria’s growing tech ecosystem.
The programme, held at the Ogun TechHub in Abeokuta, is part of the state’s Public-Private Partnership (PPP) with Cybervilla Technologies and aims to equip young people with hands-on experience in hardware maintenance, equipment configuration, and digital troubleshooting.
Empowering Ogun Youths for a Digital Future
The graduation ceremony marked a major milestone in Ogun State’s commitment to youth capacity development and the creation of a technology-driven workforce.
Over three months of intensive training, participants learned critical skills that now qualify them as certified digital technicians, ready to support Nigeria’s expanding digital economy through device repairs, IT support, and hardware servicing.
In his goodwill message, the Ogun State Head of Service, Mr. Kehinde Onasanya, represented by Mrs. Olatundun Adekunte, Director of Standard Regulations, Planning, and Research at the Bureau of Information Technology (BIT), praised the graduates for embracing the opportunity.
He emphasized the importance of expanding awareness about the programme to reduce youth unemployment, bridge the digital skills gap, and boost participation in the state’s technology-driven economy.
Voices from the Graduates
Speaking on behalf of the graduating class, Mr. Timilehin Ajisebutu expressed heartfelt gratitude to both the Ogun State Government and Cybervilla for initiating the programme.
He pledged that the trainees would apply their newly acquired skills to promote innovation and support the growth of the local technology ecosystem.
“This opportunity has given us the tools to contribute meaningfully to the development of a smarter, more innovative Ogun State,” Ajisebutu said.
Strengthening Ogun’s Digital Transformation Agenda
The CyberSquad Training Programme forms a crucial part of Governor Dapo Abiodun’s Digital Transformation Agenda, which aims to position Ogun State as one of Nigeria’s leading hubs for technology, innovation, and digital entrepreneurship.
By empowering youth with technical skills, the initiative not only tackles unemployment but also prepares the next generation for opportunities in IT support, device management, and smart technology services.
Following the success of the first cohort, the Ogun State Government has opened applications for the second phase of the training, offering another chance for aspiring young technicians to join the state’s digital revolution.
Conclusion
With the CyberSquad initiative, Ogun State is taking bold steps toward bridging the digital divide and fostering a skilled, tech-savvy youth population ready to thrive in Nigeria’s fast-evolving digital economy
