The Federal Government of Nigeria has launched the NIN Authentication (NINAuth) App, a digital innovation by NIMC designed to improve transparency, security, and citizen control over data, marking a major step in Nigeria’s digital governance reform.

The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially launched the NIN Authentication (NINAuth) App, a landmark innovation by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) aimed at strengthening transparency, efficiency, and accountability across government operations.

The app, first introduced in May 2025 and officially launched on Thursday by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, represents a significant milestone in Nigeria’s ongoing digital transformation efforts.

Part of the Renewed Hope Agenda

Speaking at the launch, President Tinubu announced that all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) will soon be required to adopt the NINAuth App for staff and data verification as part of his Renewed Hope Agenda.

“Today’s official launch of the NIMC NINAuth App heralds a remarkable day in our nation’s digital public infrastructure journey as Africa’s largest identity database. This innovation marks yet another milestone in our collective pursuit of a digitally-empowered Nigeria,”
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu

He emphasized that the initiative aligns with his administration’s goal to leverage technology to eliminate bureaucratic inefficiencies, reduce corruption, and ensure equitable access to government services.

Decentralized Data Control for Citizens

A major feature of the NINAuth App is its decentralized consent mechanism, which allows citizens to grant, revoke, or review access to their personal data linked to their National Identification Number (NIN).

This means Nigerians can now control how and when their data is accessed, ensuring enhanced privacy and security in all verification processes.

According to NIMC, the app supports:

  • Fast-tracked passport registration
  • Simplified NYSC registration
  • Instant NELFUND registration through real-time NIN verification

For businesses and enterprises, the app improves regulatory compliance and builds trust, while the government benefits from greater transparency and oversight.

“From the roadside vendor applying for a micro loan to telecom operators onboarding millions of subscribers, NINAuth is designed for everyone, making identity verification faster, safer, and simpler,”

A Unified System for Government Transactions

The mandatory adoption of NINAuth by all MDAs means that every government transaction will soon be routed through a unified, secure verification system.

With over 121 million Nigerians enrolled in the NIN database as of June 30, 2025, the NINAuth App ensures this massive database is properly harnessed for national development.

Lagos State leads with 12.9 million enrollees, while registration numbers across northern and southern regions remain nearly balanced.

By linking public resources to verified digital identities, the NINAuth system helps close loopholes for fraud, promoting fairer and more transparent resource distribution nationwide.
