The Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) partners with Paystack, Sendbox, and Messenger to launch a digital payment solution that simplifies customs duties, parcel fees, and delivery tracking — a major step toward modernizing Nigeria’s postal and logistics ecosystem.

The Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) has launched its Digital Payment Solution for Inbound Postal Items, a new platform designed to streamline and digitize the payment of customs duties, postal charges, and related fees for incoming parcels.

Developed in collaboration with Paystack, Messenger, and Sendbox, the digital payment solution marks a significant milestone in NIPOST’s efforts to modernize Nigeria’s postal and logistics ecosystem.

According to NIPOST, the new system integrates multiple services, including real-time customs duty calculation, electronic payment processing, and door-to-door delivery tracking, providing Nigerians with a seamless and transparent experience when receiving parcels from abroad.

Federal Government Commends Public-Private Collaboration

At the official launch event in Abuja, the Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, represented by Mr. Rafiu O. Adeladan, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, commended NIPOST for embracing innovation through collaboration.

“This collaboration between NIPOST and its private-sector partners shows what happens when government institutions stop working in isolation and start working in partnership, with innovators, with technology, and with citizens at the centre,” he said.
“This is how a modern public service should operate, one that sees the private sector not as a rival but as a co-creator for national progress.”

Dr. Tijani noted that inefficiencies in parcel handling and customs payments have long hindered trade and e-commerce growth in Nigeria.

“For years, Nigerians importing small parcels or business goods have faced the same frustrations, hidden customs charges, long queues, and delays. When citizens lose time and money navigating inefficient systems, we all lose value as a nation,” he added.

The minister emphasized that the partnership with Paystack, Messenger, and Sendbox will eliminate these bottlenecks by ensuring transparency, convenience, and trust in cross-border postal transactions.

NIPOST Moves Toward Full Digital Transformation

In her remarks, Engr. Tola Odeyemi, the Postmaster General of the Federation and Chief Executive Officer of NIPOST, described the launch as a bold step in NIPOST’s digital transformation journey.

“For decades, NIPOST has connected Nigerians through letters, parcels, and logistics. But in today’s digital era, connection also means convenience, transparency, and trust. That’s exactly what this collaboration represents,” Odeyemi said.

She explained that the new digital payment system directly addresses one of NIPOST’s most persistent challenges, surprise charges and inefficient payment processes for imported parcels.

“We are creating a seamless system for international inbound items, one that simplifies customs payments, enables online transactions, and delivers parcels directly to doorsteps. This ends years of customer frustration over unexpected fees at pickup,” she added.

Enhancing Transparency, Trust, and E-commerce Growth

Odeyemi noted that many Nigerians have voiced their frustrations with the old system on social media and through customer feedback channels, particularly regarding hidden charges and lack of transparency.

“These frustrations are valid and reflect gaps in communication and service design that undermine public trust. This new system fixes those gaps by integrating technology and improving customer experience,” she stated.

The Postmaster General emphasized that NIPOST’s partnership with Paystack, Messenger, and Sendbox demonstrates the agency’s readiness to integrate technology, improve service delivery, and strengthen Nigeria’s digital economy.

“This partnership is a living example of innovation in public service, where a legacy national institution collaborates with leading private innovators to deliver solutions that make life easier for Nigerians and support our digital economy,” she said.

Odeyemi reaffirmed NIPOST’s commitment to building a digitally-driven postal and logistics ecosystem that enhances e-commerce, trade facilitation, and financial inclusion.
