OpenAI has launched ChatGPT Health, a new capability designed to help users make sense of their personal health information by securely integrating medical records and wellness data into ChatGPT interactions.
The feature enables users to connect supported platforms such as Apple Health, Function, and MyFitnessPal, allowing the system to respond based on long-term health patterns rather than isolated questions or one-off symptoms.
Designed to Complement, Not Replace, Clinical Care
OpenAI stressed that ChatGPT Health is not a diagnostic or treatment tool. Instead, it is built to support users with everyday health-related questions and help them prepare for more informed conversations with healthcare professionals.
The system emphasises understanding trends over time, recognising potential warning signs, and encouraging appropriate follow-ups with clinicians when needed, without attempting to deliver medical decisions.
Privacy-First Architecture for Sensitive Health Data
To protect personal health information, OpenAI said ChatGPT Health operates within a separate environment featuring enhanced privacy safeguards beyond those used in standard ChatGPT conversations.
Key protections include:
- Health conversations are excluded from training OpenAI’s core models
- Sensitive medical data remains contained within the Health experience
- Users are prompted to switch health discussions into ChatGPT Health to access these safeguards
These measures are designed to ensure trust and security as AI becomes more closely integrated with personal health data.
Built With Extensive Physician Collaboration
OpenAI noted that ChatGPT Health was developed with direct input from more than 260 physicians across 60 countries, who reviewed over 600,000 AI-generated responses to strengthen safety, clarity, and reliability.
Medical experts influenced how the system:
- Signals urgency around seeking professional care
- Communicates complex health information clearly
- Prioritises user safety in sensitive situations
According to OpenAI, this collaboration shaped both the system’s capabilities and its response behaviour in critical moments.
Limited Rollout and Regional Availability
ChatGPT Health is initially available to a small group of early users, with OpenAI opening a waitlist for users on ChatGPT Free, Go, Plus, and Pro plans outside the European Economic Area, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.
At launch:
- Medical record integrations are limited to the United States
- Apple Health connectivity requires iOS
- Wider access on the web and iOS is expected in the coming weeks
ChatGPT’s Expanding Global Reach
The introduction of ChatGPT Health comes as the AI platform continues to grow at scale. As of December 2025, ChatGPT serves over 800 million weekly active users, doubling from approximately 400 million earlier in the year.
This growth highlights ChatGPT’s expanding presence across consumer use cases and professional environments, where it increasingly supports productivity, research, and decision-making.
Enterprise Usage Gains Momentum
OpenAI also reported strong business adoption, with more than 1 million organisations now using ChatGPT-based solutions. Offerings such as ChatGPT for Work and enterprise integrations are helping companies embed AI directly into daily operations.
What This Means Going Forward
As OpenAI continues refining ChatGPT Health and broadening access, the feature points to a growing shift toward AI-powered, privacy-centric health tools that work alongside traditional healthcare systems.
By combining secure data handling, clinician-informed design, and user-focused insights, ChatGPT Health positions AI as a supportive partner in the evolving digital health landscape.
