South Africa has taken a major step toward strengthening Africa’s digital economy with the launch of the African Digital Transformation Centre (ADTC), a new initiative designed to support technology innovation and entrepreneurship across the continent.
The centre was officially inaugurated by Mondli Gungubele, Deputy Minister of the Department of Communications and Digital Technologies, at The Innovation Hub.
Speaking at the launch, Gungubele described the ADTC as “a beacon of innovation and ambition” that reflects Africa’s determination to shape its own digital future.
Supporting Africa’s digital entrepreneurs
The newly established centre aims to empower ICT small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and digital innovators by providing access to modern infrastructure and strategic business support.
Entrepreneurs operating within the hub will benefit from mentorship programmes, funding opportunities, business development services, and connections to both local and international markets.
According to officials, the ADTC will operate as a collaborative ecosystem bringing together government institutions, private sector players, academic institutions and civil society organisations to drive innovation and create sustainable economic opportunities through emerging technologies.
Strengthening South Africa’s tech leadership
The government said the initiative is part of broader efforts to position South Africa as a leading hub for technology-driven entrepreneurship in Africa.
Gungubele also highlighted the role of The Innovation Hub as host and operational partner of the centre, describing the collaboration as a strong example of how public-sector partnerships can stimulate enterprise development and innovation.
By fostering innovation, supporting startups and expanding digital skills, the African Digital Transformation Centre is expected to play a key role in accelerating digital transformation and unlocking new economic opportunities across Africa.
