The Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) has reaffirmed its commitment to building a strong data privacy culture across Nigeria through participation in two major strategic engagements held in Kano State. These initiatives align with the Commission’s broader mission to promote data protection awareness, compliance, and responsible data management practices nationwide.

NDPC Addresses AI and Data Privacy at Kano Social Influencers Summit

At the Kano Social Influencers Summit (KANSIS), Mr. Abdulmalik Jamoh of NDPC’s Information Technology and Cybersecurity Department delivered a plenary address on the theme:
“Striking a Balance between Data Needs for AI Training and Data Privacy.”

His presentation explored the complex relationship between artificial intelligence (AI) and data protection, emphasizing the need for responsible innovation that safeguards citizens’ privacy while supporting Nigeria’s technological growth.

The summit gathered a diverse mix of policymakers, technologists, social influencers, and digital rights advocates, all united by the goal of fostering a secure and inclusive digital economy.

Cybersecurity Innovation Summit: Building Partnerships with Academia

The NDPC also participated in the Cyber Security Innovation Summit, hosted by the Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN).
During the event, Mr. Jamoh met with Professor (Dr.) Mohammad Israr, the University’s President and Vice-Chancellor, to discuss potential areas of collaboration between the Commission and the academic community.

A major outcome of this engagement was the proposal to establish a “Privacy Club” at MAAUN, a student-led initiative designed to promote data protection awareness and advocacy among university students. The club aims to inspire young Nigerians to become privacy ambassadors and champions of responsible digital citizenship.
