Final Thoughts MTN Nigeria’s 2025 network expansion investment highlights the company’s role in driving digital transformation across the country. With tariff reforms, regulatory stability, and policy support, the initiative could accelerate Nigeria’s position as one of Africa’s leading telecom markets.

MTN Digital Infrastructure, one of Africa’s leading digital infrastructure providers, has achieved a major milestone in enhancing connectivity across the continent. Its South Sudan subsidiary, Bayobab Infra Solutions Ltd, has been awarded a 15-year license by the National Communications Authority of South Sudan to construct, install, and operate electronic communications systems, effective 16 October 2025.

The license allows MTN Infra Solutions to deploy and manage national and cross-border fibre networks, including:

  • Terrestrial and satellite communications systems
  • National and international leased circuits
  • IP transit services
  • High-capacity fibre connectivity throughout South Sudan

Boosting the East-to-West Digital Corridor

This development is a critical step for Project East 2 West (E2W), which aims to create a resilient digital corridor linking East and West Africa. Through robust fibre infrastructure, MTN Digital Infrastructure seeks to accelerate digital inclusion, drive economic growth, and stimulate innovation across South Sudan and neighboring regions.

Reliable, high-speed connectivity will empower businesses, government agencies, and communities, bridging the digital divide and fostering socio-economic development.

“Securing the South Sudan license is a key milestone in building strong digital infrastructure across Africa. It enhances the strategic E2W corridor, improving connectivity, reach, and resilience across East and Central Africa,” said a company spokesperson.

Project E2W is supported by partners like Africa50, whose collaboration helps fast-track critical infrastructure deployment across the continent.

Advancing South Sudan’s Digital Economy

MTN Digital Infrastructure’s presence in South Sudan aligns with the country’s efforts to modernize its telecom sector and integrate into the regional and global digital economy. The license sets the foundation for progress in e-government, education, healthcare, and financial services, all of which rely on dependable digital infrastructure.

With this expansion, MTN Digital Infrastructure strengthens its commitment to connecting Africa, fostering communities, and supporting sustainable socio-economic growth through next-generation digital networks.
