Google has launched the first wave of 100,000 Career Certificate scholarships in Ghana, marking a major push to expand digital skills and workforce readiness in the country’s fast-growing tech ecosystem.
The initiative follows a commitment made during the opening of the Google AI Community Center in Accra, where the tech giant pledged to support the development of local digital talent.
Ghana has seen a surge in digital innovation in recent years, driven by young developers, entrepreneurs, and small business owners leveraging technology to build scalable solutions—from agritech platforms in Accra to e-commerce ventures in Kumasi. The new scholarship programme aims to accelerate this momentum by providing access to industry-relevant training.
The Google Career Certificates offer flexible, online courses designed to make participants job-ready within six months. Learners will gain practical, hands-on experience in high-demand fields such as artificial intelligence, data analytics, cybersecurity, digital marketing, IT support, project management, and UX design.
Participants can choose from specialised tracks including AI Essentials, Data Analytics, Cybersecurity, and Digital Marketing & E-commerce, with coursework covering key areas like generative AI, data visualisation, cloud troubleshooting, and agile project delivery.
The programme will be delivered through Ghana’s One Million Coders initiative, a national digital skills programme championed by President John Dramani Mahama. The goal of the initiative is to equip one million Ghanaians with digital competencies by 2030.
Google is implementing the scholarships in partnership with the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, integrating its globally recognised certifications into the country’s broader digital transformation agenda.
By combining structured learning with nationwide access, the programme is expected to boost employability, support entrepreneurship, and strengthen Ghana’s position in Africa’s digital economy.
Applications for the first cohort are now open via the One Million Coders platform, with the initiative positioned as a key driver of inclusive digital growth in the country.
