FG Unveils 3MTT National Impact Challenge, Targeting 1.8 Million Nigerians

The Federal Government of Nigeria has launched the 3MTT National Impact Challenge, a nationwide initiative aimed at amplifying the impact of the 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) Programme and empowering more than 1.8 million Nigerians within its talent pipeline.

The announcement was made on Tuesday by Bosun Tijani, Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, through a post on his official X account, where he highlighted the programme’s transition from pilot to full-scale implementation.

3MTT Transitions From Pilot to Nationwide Scale-Up

According to Tijani, the 3MTT programme has recorded significant milestones since its launch, laying a solid foundation for Nigeria’s digital workforce development.

Key achievements so far include:

  • Training over 135,000 Nigerians across three cohorts
  • Reaching 300,000+ learners via community-based learning resources
  • Enabling 15,000 job and opportunity pathways across the digital economy

He added that over 1.8 million Nigerians are currently in the 3MTT pipeline, as the government advances toward its goal of equipping three million citizens with globally relevant digital skills.

“As we move into the scale-up phase, our priority is deepening impact, strengthening alumni networks, expanding access to opportunities, and ensuring skills result in real economic outcomes,” Tijani stated.

Understanding the 3MTT National Impact Challenge

The National Impact Challenge is designed to spotlight real-life success stories from programme participants, shifting focus from enrolment numbers to tangible results such as employment, entrepreneurship, and innovation.

Programme organisers say each shared story contributes to a broader national narrative that demonstrates how digital skills training is transforming lives and communities across Nigeria.

Eligible Participants

The challenge is open to participants across multiple programmes, including:

  • 3MTT Fellows (Cohorts 1–3)
  • DeepTech Fellows (Cohorts 1–2)
  • NextGen Fellows

Participants are encouraged to highlight how the programme has influenced their career paths, technical skills, and access to new opportunities within Nigeria’s evolving digital economy.

The initiative runs from January 19 to February 14, 2026.

According to the programme team, the Impact Challenge reflects the government’s commitment to outcomes-driven digital capacity building, ensuring skills acquisition translates into employment, innovation, and economic participation.

As the 3MTT programme expands nationwide, the initiative is expected to play a pivotal role in positioning Nigeria as a leading digital talent hub in Africa and beyond.
