Zambia has reaffirmed its commitment to fully digitalising public services under the SMART Zambia Initiative as the government accelerates efforts to modernise governance and improve access to essential services through technology.

Speaking during a courtesy visit to Muchinga Province Deputy Permanent Secretary Brian Sichande in Chinsali District, SMART Zambia National Coordinator Percy Chinyama said the government aims to make all public services accessible through digital platforms as part of the country’s broader digital transformation agenda.

Chinyama highlighted the critical role of public awareness and communication in government service delivery, stressing that citizens need to understand the services available to them and how public resources are being utilised for national development.

According to him, effective communication enhances transparency, builds public trust, and demonstrates accountability in the management of taxpayers’ money.

He also revealed plans to connect schools and healthcare facilities across the country to digital systems in a bid to improve service delivery in key sectors such as education and healthcare, while boosting connectivity in underserved communities.

The initiative forms part of Zambia’s wider strategy to leverage digital technology to improve governance, efficiency, and accessibility of public services nationwide.

Responding during the engagement, Sichande welcomed the government’s digitalisation efforts, describing the transition to paperless systems as a major step toward improving operational efficiency and promoting environmental sustainability through reduced paper consumption.

He further praised the SMART Zambia team for engaging provincial leadership and pledged Muchinga Province’s full support for the successful implementation of the country’s digital transformation programme.

The SMART Zambia Initiative remains central to Zambia’s ambition of building a more connected, efficient, and technology-driven public sector.
