The Federal Government has taken a major step toward modernising law enforcement with plans to equip police stations nationwide with digital infrastructure and AI-enabled tools to enhance operations and security.
Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to expand connectivity across police facilities as part of Nigeria’s broader digital transformation agenda.
The agreement was signed with the Nigeria Police Trust Fund, led by its Executive Secretary, Mohammed Sheidu, alongside members of the board.
At the heart of the initiative is Project BRIDGE, a nationwide effort to connect police stations to Nigeria’s fibre backbone infrastructure. The project is expected to enable secure, real-time data sharing across law enforcement units and improve coordination between field officers and central command systems.
Officials say the upgraded digital framework will also pave the way for the adoption of advanced technologies, including Artificial Intelligence, to support smarter policing. These capabilities are expected to enhance incident response, streamline case management, and enable predictive analytics for crime prevention.
The initiative aligns with the government’s push to extend digital infrastructure across public institutions, with a focus on improving service delivery and strengthening national security.
Tijani emphasised that integrating technology into policing is critical to building a more responsive and efficient security system.
“A connected police force is a more effective police force,” he said, adding that digital transformation must prioritise institutions responsible for public safety.
The move signals a shift toward data-driven policing in Nigeria, as authorities look to harness technology to tackle evolving security challenges and improve operational outcomes.
