Two ambitious 13-year-olds from Trumbull have turned their love of technology into a budding business, all in the name of satisfying their food delivery cravings.
A Business Born from a Craving
Gavin Intellisano and Mason Fonseca, best friends since third grade, decided last summer to start a business so they could afford DoorDash whenever they wanted.
“We wanted money on a card so we can get whatever we wanted anytime we wanted, and we wanted to find something we were interested in and could make profit off it,” Gavin said. “So we decided to start a computer consulting business.”
From Coding Class to Consulting
Their interest in technology was sparked during the COVID-19 pandemic, when both began taking classes at Code Ninjas, a national coding program for kids.
“When I moved to Trumbull (in 2018), I went to Code Ninjas, and after that, I just got kind of hooked,” Mason said.
The experience introduced them to the world of programming and computer problem-solving, skills they’ve now turned into a service for local residents.
Balancing School and Startups
Though Gavin and Mason attend different schools, Gavin at Madison Middle School and Mason at St. Luke’s School in New Canaan, the young entrepreneurs live in the same neighborhood and have found a way to work around their school schedules.
They set aside specific times after school to work on their business, providing basic computer services and advice to clients in their community.
Big Dreams, One DoorDash Order at a Time
While the original motivation was simple to buy snacks and meals via DoorDash Gavin and Mason say they’re excited about where their business could go. They’re learning real-world skills, earning money, and gaining experience most kids their age haven’t even thought about.
Their story is a reminder that sometimes, the best ventures start with a craving, and a little bit of code.
